Owls. I love them. They are hard to find. This is part of their appeal, and the frustration of photographing them. It took me years to find my first owls. And I’ve been scanning trees for them since I was a kid. Now, I see them more often - because I’ve trained my eye how to see them, I think. When you do finally find one, they are likely to cooperate with a photo or two.

Owls are not easily frightened by people who treat them with respect. I approach them quietly and slowly, stay at a reasonable distance (use a telephoto lens and crop for portraits instead of getting in their face), and I NEVER use bait, or flash, to get a photo.
